It’s the Eye of the Tiger!

Tiger’s eye.  A unique quartz stone where crocidolite oriented fibers have been replaced by silica (see http://www.all-that-gifts.com/se/tigers_eye.html for more information on Tiger’s eye).  It’s curious beauty is enticing and has a bit of mystery.

Like turquoise, I was introduced to Tiger’s Eye by my mother at a young age.  She use to have a beautiful gold ring with small diamond chips in a leaf pattern with a rounded Tiger’s Eye in the center.  She wore it for the longest time until it was stolen in a house burglary.  She didn’t own any other Tiger’s Eye, but she loved this ring.  The stone intrigued me as a young girl, especially the cut stones that look like actual cat’s eyes.  Perhaps it was my love for cats, but it was unique.  Little did I know that the stone’s supposed mystical power is focus.

This week’s Featured Piece is this beautiful Tiger’s Eye Necklace.  I absolutely adore it.  The pendant stone is wire-wrapped in a decorative position.  The gold necklace and links are all 14K Gold Fill of a minimum 20% Gold.  A lovely piece that will have others focusing on you!

Turquoise.  It wasn’t until the last ten years that I truly have come to appreciate my traditional birthstone.  As a child my mother would take me to Cripple Creek, CO where they had public access to gold, silver and turquoise mines.  You could look for and harvest your own vein of mineral.  That was over 20 years ago and they many no longer exist, but it is a memory I will cherish.

As such, there is a jar of raw turquoise sitting in my cabinet from those days.  The largest piece I harvested myself.  However, despite the memory of the experience, I detested turquoise.  I had mounds of turquoise jewelry and only one or two pieces that I truly thought to be lovely.  However, nowadays, turquoise has taken on a more refined, polished non-Southwestern look.  As such, my love affair for turquoise has emerged, thus this week’s feature piece.

This week as an omage to the 60′s, but with a twist, this piece is whimsical, yet stylish.  Utilizing pure copper metal to set off the natural beauty of the turquoise beads, the peace sign remains the primary focal point of the necklace.  A modern twist on an old theme.

This weeks featured piece is a particular favorite called Cherry Tree.

This piece is artfully handcrafted from pendant to scroll chain.  Composed of pure copper with pink and dark pink Swarovski crystals and Chinovski crystal beads, this is a work of art.  The tree is free formed with pure copper wire and wire-wrapped, with pink and dark pink Swarovski crystals as it’s blossoms and fruit.  The scrolled chain has been hand formed as well with pure copper, each scroll is connected by a Chinovski crystal bead of the same pink colors represented in the tree.

A set of earrings have been created to coordinate with the necklace and pendant.  This piece is available for purchase at my online store Jewelry by TFS.

Working with sterling silver has started to get a little easier, but now I’m moving into natural stone and gemstones.  A customer had mentioned she loves yellow Topaz.  However, finding yellow Topaz is not quite that easy or cost effective when you are just getting started.  Thought, yellow citrine is a nice close second.  And now, I’m in love with it.  The stones I’ve found are a nice deep yellow.  Accented with silver, they really shine.

Here are two two necklaces, similar yet different in design:

I made a pair of earrings for my customer.  They are wire formed and simple, but really fun.  I have a similar pair with smoky crystals.  The other two pair shown below are made to coordinate with the two necklaces above.  Seriously, you can’t have a necklace without matching earrings. :-)

With the exception of the first pair of earrings shown, all items here are available for purchase at My Etsy Store.
